Face Oils Edition – Badger Organics Antioxidant Damascus Rose Oil

Badger OrganicsOn my quest to find organic face oil on Vitacost website, I came across Badger Organics range. Regrettably I had never heard of Badger Organics (to learn more about their principles, mission, etc – click here http://www.badgerbalm.com/s-12-about-us.aspx) before. To me, there is something incredibly refreshing to see a company that believes in purity and effectiveness of their ingredients, and believe money is their fuel not ultimate goal wins me over instantly. Bigger companies have shareholders to answer to but smaller private companies work for their customers! Kudos!!!

Simply based on their ingredient listing and company principles, I bought the Antioxidant Damascus Rose Oil. I have a weakness for anything rose based or naturally scented. The product claims to be highly absorbent – I agree, antioxidant rich, with rejuvenating base oils – amazing oils that don’t clog my pores and break me out, double yay for me.

P1000743At a tender age of 29 (obvs with sarcasm) I don’t have wrinkles issue but I love how my skin looks next morning. My skin is combination, dehydrated and occasionally breakout prone and much to my delight I had no issue with this oil. Sometimes I mix this face oil with my Body Shop Vitamin E Overnight Serum-in-Oil. The results next morning are nothing short of fabulous, well rested, glowy!!

I cannot wait to try more products from Badger Organics and share the love with all my lovelies.

Face Oils Edition – The Body Shop Vitamin E Overnight Serum-in-Oil

P1000650

I often wonder if this product hadn’t entered my life what would my skin be like. At first when I read about Serum-in-oil I was thinking what the heck? Like seriously what the hell is serum in oil, is it new marketing gimmick or is it really something? Little did I know when I bought it, it sure is something.

The Body Shop claims it has highest concentration in wheatgerm oil, non-greasy and fast absorbing. I would have to agree. I use it as a part of my night time skincare regime, on cleansed and toned skin. I squirt a drop on my forehead, each cheek and chin straight from pipette. The oil…serum (whatever) soaks in my skin immediately without leaving any greasy residue. The only time I’ve had a greasy residue is when I got tad carried away and applied more than needed. In the morning my skin looks plump, fresh, calm and well rested. Occasionally when I breakout near my jaw or chin, I apply this product over my breakout and it instantly calms and nourishes my angry spots and its well on its way to recovery.

P1000651Having witnessed the benefits of this product, I have used it on other parts of my body too. Such as when I may have a rash or excessive dryness on back of my hand or experiencing dry feet. It doesn’t bother me using so liberally everywhere because a little goes long way and it’s pretty cheap/reasonably priced.

So to conclude, I would definitely recommend this product to anyone with any type of skin issues. It is surely a wonderful addition to face oils family. Plus I may have figured out why it’s called Serum-in-oil. Possibly because its texture is oily but after effect is like serum….makes sense :s

The Body Shop Vitamin E Overnight Serum-in-Oil – $26 (keep an eye out for 40% on website – $15.60, bargain!)

What’s the CATCH?

IMG_1341

Being an ardent follower of Lisa Eldridge recently I read her post about The Beauty Pioneer – Helena Rubinstein (if you haven’t already read it, you must!) with great curiosity. The story of Helena Rubinstein’s above par business sense, innovation, path and astute skills in production and marketing of beauty products is undoubtedly commendable. However it made me ponder if women, especially in this day and age with unlimited access to internet (Review on blogs, Makeupalley, customers leaving reviews on Sephora, Ulta, SpaceNk, Paula’s Choice etc), are still gullible to fancy packaging and upmarket sell?

Don’t get me wrong, I’m woman and I’m attracted to beautiful packaging as any other lady walking down the street, but the million dollar question is would you fork out more of your hard earned money for the fancy packaging and upsell? Deep down in our hearts we may be doubting if the product would deliver its claims. Would our wandering enthusiastic minds be willing to surpass the fact that ingredients in the beautifully packaged product would do our skin more harm than good or nothing at all!?

On the other hand, one may also argue fancy packaging is not the tipping point of a purchase! Lately big brand companies (such as Jurlique, Aesop, Dermalogica, Chanel etc) are introducing products with simpler packaging but smarter marketing. Are we falling for that now? Does that translate to a classier upmarket product or does that interpret as fuss free, simple and to the point packaging? Or are they simply saving moolah on packaging and yet charging us an arm and leg for their products? I would question….why….is it because the ingredients are ultra special?

In case of Helena’s Crème de Valaze it was a upsell of basic Lanolin with some enchanting aromas, and selling at an exorbitant price justified with twisted sense of female psychology.  For decades we have seen some products being marketed on basis of their star ingredients. Marketers include hi – fi ingredient speak which an average consumer can barely pronounce leave alone understand its benefits! For example: Niacinimade (sigh such a tongue twister). In some instances, if we really have the time and attention to detail we may notice that the star ingredient is far behind on the ingredient listing. Which may indicate it’s not as potent as they claim the product to be! But they would still like us to shell out top dollar. On what basis are they demanding more money….can product honestly deliver its claims?

Women are known to be most self-critical creatures, which may lead to some insecurity about themselves and their appearance. In saying so, women are also the most hopeful species existent on planet Earth, why else would we resort to products with excellent marketing and PR to make us believe the product would be best suited to our relevant skin concerns. Are they deceiving our innocent hopeful minds?

We have all been victims to emerging trend of celebrity endorsements. Sigh the bloggers and You Tubers are required to disclose if the products are PR samples or purchased with their own money, why don’t we question the celebrities? They are getting paid hundreds and thousands of dollars to endorse a product. We have no way of tracking if they are actually using what they endorse, god alone knows what goes on behind their closed vanity doors.

The beauty industry is mega billion dollar industry; generations of entrepreneurs and big brands have made gazillions of dollars on what principle? What is that buzz mantra that keeps it all moving, are they really listening to consumers or are they manipulating consumers to their speak! Nevertheless we are all mesmerized by it everyday, falling for different marketing jargons, some people (like myself) write about it…but as they say ‘the show must go on’.

Thanks for taking time to read and wandering with me in my thoughts.

My Thoughts: Priori Barrier Repair Complex

P1000793

As mentioned in my previous post on Priori cleanser (Click Here), this brand just doesn’t have enough recognition it deserves. Anyway so today I’m going to talk about Barrier Repair Complex. As with the cleanser I’ve used this moisturizer for past 6-7 years and ultimately resort to this, should my skin go through any trauma.

 Priori claims:

  • 2% LCA Complex: 1% L-Lactic Compound + 1% MFAS (Multi-Functional Antioxidant Sequence)
  • Fortifying Epidermal Complex – Ceramide 3, Cholesterol, , Essential Fatty Acids
  • Anti-Irritant Complex – Allantoin, Bisabolol, Sucrose Cocoate
  • Soothing & Calming Properties – Green Tea, Licorice Extract
  • pH 3.8, Non-Comedogenic, Oil Free, Fragrance Free, Colorant Free, Dermatologist Tested, Allergy Tested, Paraben Free

May be it sunburn, post IPL laser, post microdermabrasion, post acid peel or post any disastrous event, slapping this moisturizer completely renews my skin like nothing ever happened. It instantly soothes, hydrates and calms my skin down. It is fairly rich but light in texture and lasts a while. All my skin needs is one pump all over my face. Sometimes I use it on my hands, elbows & knees who scream for attention. I think it would be suitable for all skin types.

The bottle lasts me for a while since I don’t use it every night. This is one for emergencies and occasional pampering. It could be argued that it’s at hefty price point but for what it does, it’s worth it for me.

I’ve Been Everywhere Man! Travel Skincare Edition

P1000796Over the last week I have been traveling 4 states in 4 days. Whilst I don’t have any exciting or glamorous pics to share with you of my travels, I have to say I’m pretty impressed with the skincare I packed. Now you would wonder what’s the big deal?! So allow me to give you a snap shot of my situation and places.

I was travelling Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Texas in August summer. HOT & HUMID is a very mild way of expressing the harsh weather conditions. To make matters worse, I had to be in Fire Resistant Clothing which was full sleeves, hard hat and eye protection glasses which translates to sweaty ickiness galore.

P1000797An extreme combination of all these factors (which personally I’m not use to) I thought by the time I return home my skin will be angry, red, burnt and breaking out all over. However in saying so, I have come back with near perfect, calm skin. Which brings me to share with you my skincare which comprised of only 8 products!

Super Facialist By Una Brennan – Neroli Firming Lift & Hydrate Oil – OK the name does not suggest pre-cleanse but I do use it as my pre-cleanse and does a bang up job at it.

Shiseido Ibuki Cleanser – Makeup Remover and general cleansing, did fab job. Generally I avoid foaming cleanser like a plague however this did not strip my skin at all (possibly because it does not contain SLS).

Shiseido Ibuki Softening Concentrate – aka Toner in western skincare terms. Instantly hydration boost and skin looked happy, calm and cooperative with the conditions.

Shiseido Ibuki Moisturizer – this product was used only at night, as I feared using it during day would be disastrous (hot, humid, sweaty, blocked pores…you know the drill!). As a night moisturizer is replenished and restored the state of my skin.

La Roche Posay Effaclar Duo – specifically used on spots, or places “where I felt there is one coming….

Indeed Labs – Hydraluron – day time hydration weapon!

Biore Sunscreen – goes without saying in these weather conditions I needed and kept reapplying subcreen every 2 hours. Due to its water based content, my skin did not suffer at all and did not leave it in a gloopy mess.

Minimal makeup was the key. Very light foundation, spot concealing, eyebrows framed, mascara and spf lip balm!
